Promox (Minoxidil-based formulations)
Promox is a formulation created by Dr. Oscar Klein. It contains two FDA proven ingredients: Minoxidil and Finasteride. The Minoxidil is at a 5% solution level and the Finasteride is at a 0.1% solution level.
Minoxidil is the first and only topical solution to be FDA approved for the treatment of Male Pattern Hair Loss. It is used twice daily directly applied on the scalp. It is used on the vertex of your scalp, which is the back of the top of your head. The 5% solution stimulates the hair follicle to produce hair. In its clinical trials the original maker of Minoxidil proved that it has a high success rate of 85%, which in medicine is huge. When first made available it was prescription only, made under the brand name Rogaine. But it is now available over-the-counter and as a generic. For many people this is the miracle topical solution for hair loss.
Numerous companies have thought of using Finasteride as a topical solution. As you know it is used successfully in pill form, under the name of Propecia. It is rumored that a major drug company was or is considering doing research on it as a topical solution for hair loss, but nothing is confirmed. Using Finasteride as a topical solution has been studied by BIOalternatives, who is a medical service company that performs studies to aid in the support of new drugs and new protocols by outside companies. In the study it was found that topical Finasteride had a 67% inhibitor ratio of DHT or dihydrotestosterone.
Promox also contains Tretinoin, Azelaic Acid and Progesterone. There have been no formal clinical trials for these ingredients, but they have been linked to hair loss. For example, it is said that Tretinoin increases the absorption and effectiveness of the other ingredients in Promox.
This website recommends Promox because Minoxidil is a FDA proven topical solution for hair loss and research has shown that topical Finasteride is effective in blocking DHT production in the hair follicles. We believe the ProMox solution has an advantage over Minoxidil alone because of the extra ingredients.
